Bernal Heights Residence

Bernal Heights Residence

This modern three-story home utilizes a simple box geometry, shaped through a thoughtful process of carving out negative volumes and adding new ones. The resulting massing features carefully placed fenestration designed to capture optimal daylight and frame prime views of San Francisco, while naturally zoning the interior spaces.

On the exterior, 2x2 cedar slat cladding is arranged in contrasting directions to accentuate the home's cubic forms. To facilitate a seamless transition for the clients, the construction was divided into two phases. The first phase completed the ground-level one-car garage and a multi-purpose living space, enabling the owners to occupy the building while construction on the upper two floors was completed in the second phase.
